Sowers Harvest, one of Extend’s founding cafés, is marking its 10th year anniversary. Located in State College, PA, this small space has created a significant community impact since its opening in 2015. Bill Horlacher, a local journalist, wrote an article commemorating a decade of impact, noting that Sowers is accomplishing something truly remarkable. He points out that Sowers is “[attracting] a growing clientele while ignoring most of the strategies or shortcuts used by other eateries.”
Horlacher quotes Bryant Martin, owner of Sowers Harvest and co-founder of Extend Cafés, highlighting three key elements of success at the café, “healthy cuisine and ethically based coffee, a peaceful space, and engaging conversation and community.” Building around these characteristics, Sowers has cultivated an atmosphere of warm interaction and hospitality. Horlacher further describes the culture of Sowers as a place “known for making people feel at home”. Reaching many demographics, Sowers has been a hub where cultures intersect. Horlacher highlights what he finds “most impressive — the unique mix of people who comprise the café’s clientele.” Serving students, professors, professional athletes, and the locals alike, Sowers is a place of welcome for all.
